About the Art
The Ennis House is my favourite Frank Lloyd Wright design in Los Angeles, and thatโs saying something, considering how many great ones there are.
Filmmakers seem to share this sentiment, as the building has made countless appearances in iconic films and shows, withย Blade Runner being the most famous example. Its bold, geometric design, inspired by ancient Mayan temples, gives it a cinematic quality that feels both timeless and otherworldly, perfect for the big screen.
I had a lot of fun drawing this house and enjoyed using a longer aspect ratio to capture its impressive scale and intricate details.

I looked for a while on Instagram and other places. I liked all the work of George Townley. I ordered the Stahl House (I also live in SoCal but haven't yet visited... hard to get tickets). I am thoroughly delighted with the framed print and it is hanging prominently in my office. I have gotten some compliments and it is recognizable in my neck of the woods so people also seem to like that. I love George's work! I don't live in California, just visit occasionally, but I feel like I have west coast sensibilities, and George perfectly captures the essence of California in his illustrations. I chose this piece (and two variants of this Westwood In-N-Out work) because In-N-Out is my favorite burger ever and this is my favorite In-N-Out to go to. In this particular piece, the sunny, laid-back vibes of LA come through perfectly.
