I never got to see this bridge in person. By the time I’d fallen in love with LA and begun drawing its landmarks, the bridge was already nearing the end of its life. I only knew it through photographs, films, and the stories people shared, a steel span quietly connecting neighbourhoods across the river.
Opened in 1932, the bridge became an unmistakable part of the city’s visual language before being dismantled in 2016 due to age and seismic concerns. It felt strange to mourn something I’d never stood on, yet it was so deeply woven into LA’s memory.
This artwork is my way of preserving that presence. I hope it carries the bridge’s story forward, keeping its spirit alive long after the structure itself has gone.
